We laughed a lot today

Let me tell you about the funny things that happened today...

1. My skirt slit apparently went too high and I didn't notice until half way through the day.
2. We went to 3 different Chinese places before we found a place that would sell their food a-la-cart.
3. We had our neighbors over and talked for a while and I had food in my teeth and nephi never told me.
4. Our new neighbors that got married 4 weeks ago just found out they are pregnant and I gasped.
5. We watched The Help and I was on pinterest the whole time. I am a recent addict.
6. We just laughed a lot.

It may not seem funny, but we had fun for some reason.

Tomorrow is my last day of work at BYU-Idaho. I was really blessed to work there and I'm ready to move on.

Christmas was good. Spent lots of time with nephi's family and got spoiled big time. I will blog more about it later.

Also, we are going to park city on friday!! Can't wait to see my best friend and her family!

It's Me... Nephi. The Husband of The Blog.

Hey Bloggalots...

I know you're probably pretty confused to find out that it was Mallory posting on this blog the whole time and not me. Well, you're in for a treat. I'm blogging tonight.
Since April 14 of this year, life has been amazing. Mallory and I have had a great time.  We have had so much fun and it's easy to see the future in a positive light. We have had a few times where our plans have not gone exactly how we thought they should. They have however turned out exactly the way really wanted.
Mallory has been searching so hard to find work after she graduates. She spent a lot of brainpower trying to find more places to apply for work.  I have tried my best throughout the last few months to help her and look for openings at different places. She is definitely more talented at finding ways to look for employment than I am.  I have learned quite a few skills from her and am constantly amazed at how clever and hard working she truly is.  Knowing Mallory makes it easy to believe in her.  I know that when it comes to her working, a job will mostly likely come to find her rather than her going to find it.  She is so talented and hard working that I honestly feel bad for any company that for one reason or another doesn't take the chance to interview her.  It has been easy for me to have faith in her finding a job to be honest.  Knowing her even a tiny bit makes it easy to believe in her.  We are very grateful for the answers to prayers recently in that Mallory has a few interviews set up.  We are thankful for anyone who has prayed for us and especially for those that have prayed to help Mallory find success.  We all know Mallory and know that she deserves the best. Thank you for your support.

     Next topic.....
Since August I have been in a Phlebotomy training class. That means I've been learning how to stab people legally and I've loved it.  I had my final test yesterday (Dec. 10) and Mallory came to my class to let me test on her.  Well... just so happens that the worst day I've had so far in Phlebotomy happened to be with Mallory's poor arms. I had to stick her a few times to many.  In my defense, she has some petite little veins and taking a final test on veins like that is...not recommended. Long story short: I gave her a hematoma. I passed the class. The end. Here is the so called "hematoma."
I named it Herbert. It's the bump in the middle if you're confused.

Also, while I was drawing blood from one of Mallory's arms, a man in the back of the room started having a seizure from having his blood drawn. He started making crazy sounds like he was going to cover the table with his breakfast (if you know what I mean) and then his eyes rolled back and he started tipping over with a slur of crazy sounds.  My teacher ran over quickly and caught him, lowering him to the ground safely.  A few minutes after waking, he stood up and acted like nothing happened. "No, I'm totally fine. Feel fine. Feel great." He tried convincing us. Ooooooookkk.

Well, maybe I'll get on here again sometime and say what's on my mind. If not, I'm sure you're all more than fine with that. Until next time. Take it easy. Peace. Bye. Ciao. See ya. See you. See ya later. See you later.

Hugs,
Nephi

Did I mention we believe in miracles?

Did I mention we believe in miracles? Because we do.

The last few weeks as I have hit the job hunt harder than ever, and I have been struggling. Nephi and I hardly sleep because we talk about how we are going to figure everything out and I cry a lot and he listens and I can hardly focus on my school work and job. Nephi has stayed strong and consistent the whole time. I cannot say the same thing for myself.

While on my mission, I had a similar (but different) experience. The feeling of lack of faith, inadequacy and heartache feel the exact same and I will never forget it. As I have been feeling these same feelings, like I have been dealt a bad hand, I have been reflecting upon this experience, a lot. The best part, I got through that experience and it completely changed my mission and dare I say my life. I believe this experience will do the same.

After applying for several jobs with no call backs or strong leads going through--I finally had a great interview on Friday. About 4 months ago I had a few interviews with different companies that we very interested in me but I couldn't start till December. Now, I finally had an interview where I could say that I am available. (Timing is everything, btw.)

On Friday I interviewed with a Hospice in Idaho Falls. The position is for a volunteer coordinator who works in the community recruiting, training, planning events and doing some PR and marketing. It would be an excellent job working with people who are interested in serving people who are in the last few months or days of living. The interview went so well and I was invited back for a second interview on Monday.

It doesn't stop there...My friend and I were talking the other night and she told me she knew a recruiter for a very good company in Idaho Falls. She emailed him and helped me and him connect and within 24 hours, we set up an appointment to meet on Monday as well for a meeting. This is not an interview but I am meeting with a recruiter and he did ask to see my writing samples so this is a good thing.

Guess what...IT DOESN'T STOP THERE! (Excuse my all-caps obnoxiousness.) On Friday at 4 PM, I got a phone call from an random 208 number. Those intrigue me the most so I answered and guess what...it was another company asking me to come and interview on Monday! This was a very satisfying call because this company was interested in me 4 months ago and when I tried to contact them a month ago they went all M.I.A on me and I was very upset by it. But, they came crawling back and I couldn't be happier :)

Moral of the story: Have faith, and works, but don't forget about the faith. Listen to your husband. Humble yourself and ask people to pray for you. Fast and pray, fast and pray. Never ever give up.

We feel so blessed to have these opportunities on Monday and I feel incredibly vulnerable because they could all not go through but regardless, the Lord is on my side and we are in good hands.

A trip down memory lane...

Nephi and I at my friend Alyx's wedding. (Check out her cute blog!) This was a pivotal moment for Nephi and I. Long story but if you are interested I will tell it sometime.

Laurie Rodriguez. One of my sweetest converts from Nebraska! I love and miss her so much! And then of course, Sister Hall (now, Wiscombe). She was one of the biggest answers to my prayers and one of my best friends.

Two great friends from college! So many inside jokes. My stomach burns from laughter every time we are together.

My siblings! Me, Rachel, Sheridan, Caitlin, Chelsea and Kendall. (Nov 2010)

Family photo from last year. Time flies! Nephi and I weren't even engaged yet! We took a risk but it was worth it :)

Turkey Trot! My sisters ran--not me. They are amazing.

Collin Raye and I last year after his concert. Seriously, he was a great person. So kind and has very high morals and so talented. I loved working with him and his band as I planned their event. We became best buds and they tried to recruit me to work for them.

Zeenie's bridal shower! All of us are married now and 3 of us have a baby!

My brother Sheridan, me and older sister Chelsea. They used to think I was cute and really fun to play with.

Fun fact: I danced for like 8 years and then chose to play sports instead of pursuing the dance path. Don't regret it because I still have some rhythm. You should see me Zumba.

Homecoming senior year! This is one dance I will never forget. I LOVE these girls and we are still friends today. Also, this was my favorite dress for a dance. Loved it.

Cute, right?

The night Nephi and I got engaged! Seriously, such a happy night. I could have exploded with happiness.

High School graduation with my sister, Kendall. I haven't changed much. Ha!

In Nebraska with the corn, of course! Meggy was my first companion and is having her first baby boy soon! She taught me everything I know! I wish I lived closer to her. She is a great friend.

Pivotal time of my mission. Without this balloon, Lincoln wouldn't have been the same. The girl that gave me this balloon seriously changed my life and is one of my best friends! Miss her a lot.

Rocky Point in high school! We drove everywhere in that thing. Those guys driving even drove us into a crazy sand dunes area at night while we were in the back! I miss the beach, sun and tacos in Mexico!

Sweet 16! (Just got home from volleyball practice) My young women leaders did this for me and I ended up getting pinched by a scorpion when I took one of the kisses down!

My momma and me on the way to my first day of my internship! Can I just say that I am not embarrassed that my mom dropped me off on my first day? She is amazing. Can't even express that enough.

At Alyx's wedding reception in Utah! I told Nephi that if he caught the garter that Mike tossed he would get lucky...and he did...and he got lucky! We got married 9 months later!

And me being domestic. Kind of what I do now, kinda. One day I will do it more.

Hope you enjoyed my blast from the past! Can't wait to get all my pictures sorted out.

A Daily Gem for Me

I needed this today.

I am so grateful for the prophets and apostles that have a greater perspective when I can't.

Weekend Update

We had a great weekend. On Friday, we came home from school and work, made some homemade mac and cheese and then went to Battle of the Dance event on campus. It sold out! There were so many people there and the event went very well. I was really proud of the event managers. (PS-We've been able to go to events every weekend because of my role in our Student Activities program here on campus. The last 2 semesters I have been the director of the program and it's been a great experience.) Then we came home and watched a movie in bed and ate popcorn.

On Saturday, Nephi went to work and went to campus and did homework (aka-Did homework that was due Tuesday, not Monday because it was easier. I hate when I do that.) Then Nephi came home and we made BBQ Chicken salad. Yum. We mocked the recipe that Wingers uses. We love it.  Then, we went to A BYU-Idaho Christmas concert. It was amazing. An hour and a half full of Christmas music by the BYU-Idaho orchestra and chorus and even special guest Brian Stokes Mitchell. I love going to Christmas events and parties and seeing everyone dressed up and fall and winter coats and colors. It's my favorite!

When we got home, we got DQ mini blizzards and we played Wii. It was so much fun! For some reason I didn't realize that we had Mario Kart? We played for a while and laughed so hard.

On Sunday we went to church, of course, and it was great. I made chilli when we got home for the first time and we loved it! I even made some cornbread muffins and made some honey-cinnamon butter. We were in heaven. We had friends over later and had dessert and played Wii again.

I have been bugging Nephi for a while to get new glasses that were thicker frames and he finally got them! When he opened the package, I laughed so hard! They are a greenish-blue color with a tortoise print on the side of them...Well, turns out he looks great and super trendy in them and I love it! It's so not Nephi but they work really well for him. Every few minutes I would say, 'turtle, turtle'. Haha,--A little annoying but so funny.

So, on black Friday we went to Kohls and spent $50 so we got $15 in Khols bucks. It expired yesterday so I told Nephi he had to spend it! I told him that he should just get whatever he wants because I didn't need anything in particular. So, he came home with cute slippers for himself and this for me...

SO random. A breast cancer awareness ribbon necklace?! I told Nephi a long time ago when were having a discussion about how we think we will die that I believe I will die from breast cancer. Also, I feel sensitive to breast cancer not because anyone I know very well has passed because of it but just because I am sensitive to it. Anyway, very random and kind of funny. I laughed a lot but it was very sweet.

Tender Mercies:
  • I'm graduating next week and I am freaking out about finals but I am taking 2 this week and 3 next week. Just found out today that instead of a multiple choice test in my writing class, we are just going to write a timed paper. Whew! Amazing.
  • No job lined up yet but I met with a friend last week for lunch and got a great lead on a job. (PS-I apply for about 3 jobs a week. People are ridiculous and job sites are crazy. I wish every HR worked like BYU-Idaho HR.)
  • Found out yesterday that I can still work with HR till the end of the month even though I will be graduated! One of the secretaries had a baby so she will be gone for a few more weeks and so they need extra help.
  • Just got a message from a friend in my ward that her families magazine is looking for free-lance writers and I will be interviewed!
We are in need of any prayers to help us find a job for me. It's a scary time but we are looking forward with faith and hope.

Oh Christmas Tree, Oh Christmas Tree

Found our battery pack for our nice camera, finally. Just in time to decorate my first REAL Christmas tree!

Made our own ornaments. Why do I love pink so much this season?

Only a few ornaments but we love it!

And the night ended with some cute cuddling.

Food-Phone-Pics

Food is on my mind. Always. Of course.

I don't always have a camera around and even if I do, since we don't have internet or photoshop, I hate downloading them on the school computers! Here are a few of our favorite meals lately from my phone, with minor edits using photoshop...

Gotta love $1 oatmeal Wednesdays at Jamba Juice. Apple cinnamon is my favorite.
When I am craving Costa Vida, it is the most satisfying meal. Yum.
Our own special Thanksgiving. Of course we had Thanksgiving with Nephi's family but the Sunday after, we had our own Thanksgiving. It certainly wasn't homemade but it only took us about an hour to put it all together and we loved it!
After I made the porkloin on Sunday, we had a lot of leftovers. So, the next day we had pork tacos with cabbage and then the next day we had sweet and sour pork. I put it in a frying pan and added red pepper, green onions, pineapple and sweet and sour sauce. We had fresh broccoli and brown rice with it.
Probably our favorite meal this week was homemade mac-and-cheese. My good friend and I used to always make it (that is how I gained my freshman 15) and I have never made it for Nephi! We made it last night for our date night and had kielbasa sausage to go with it and we were in heaven! We talked about it all night.
And of course, my bountiful basket purchase. For those of you who have bountiful baskets available in your area...DO IT! It's the best deal ever. We get it every 2-3 weeks and it is plenty of fruits and veggies to last us! They stay better longer because they are fresh, it's a great variety and gets you out of your comfort zone of cooking, and it's cheap! I got all of this for $16.50 (some of it is left over from 4 weeks ago and it is still good). Totally worth it. Oh, and if you are wondering what persimmons are, check out more information about them here. I am excited to try them!

There is my food kick.
